Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.
ISAIAH 7:14
For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
ISAIAH 9:6
Isaiah the prophet sees a vision concerning the people of Jerusalem and Judah which is one of the twelve tribes of Israel: God says He has cared for them but they have forsaken Him having walked in the ways of the rest of Israel and as a result, their land will be made desolate. A small number of them however will return and God will purge away their dross. He will restore their judges as at the first and they shall be called the city of righteousness. Many people will come and He will teach them His ways for out of Jerusalem His word will go forth.
Time passes and in the days of Ahaz king of Judah, the king of Syria and the king of Israel come up against Jerusalem to make war against it. God however tells Isaiah to tell king Ahaz that their plans won’t stand for Israel will be broken within sixty-five years. The sign God will give is the virgin will conceive and bear a son and His name will be Immanuel which means ‘God with us’. He will eat curds and honey to know to refuse the evil and choose the good but before that happens, Israel’s land will be forsaken by its king and the king of Syria because God will bring the king of Assyria against them.
Isaiah then goes to the prophetess and she conceives and gives birth to a son and God tells Isaiah to call his name Maher-Shalal-Hash-Baz which means ‘haste to the spoil’. For before the child can cry ‘my father’ and ‘my mother’, the riches of Israel will be taken away by the king of Assyria because Israel has rejected God and sought the glory of other nations.
God will be a stone of stumbling and a rock of offense to both Judah and Israel but a sanctuary for those who hallow and revere Him. Isaiah is to bind up the testimony and seal God’s law among His people who are learned and wait on Him who hides His face from His people. Those who walk in darkness and the gloom that comes upon the land of Zebulun and Naphtali in Israel however will see a great light for unto the people a Child is born and a Son given who is called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father who reigns in peace.
So Israel is taken captive by Assyria and taken there and Judah is eventually taken captive by Babylon and taken there. The Assyrians put other nations in the land of Israel and some of those of Judah who are taken to Babylon return to Jerusalem after seventy years.
Time passes again and a virgin betrothed to a man of Judah is with child by God’s Spirit. She brings forth her firstborn Son and calls Him Jesus which means ‘Jehovah is salvation’ for He is ‘God with us’ who will save His people from their sins. Jesus begins His ministry in the regions of Zebulun and Naphtali at about thirty years of age saying “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand”. Those who believe in Him are saved from their sins and He is a sanctuary to them but those who don’t believe in Him are not saved as He is a stone of stumbling and a rock of offense to them.
